The office of Professional Development in EBR, in collaboration with the Academic Distinction Fund, selected twelve elementary and middle school teachers to participate in the Taking Steps to Leadership Initiative for the 2006-2007 school year. The Initiative supports the teachers in their work towards National Board Certification. The twelve selected teachers will have fees paid for the process, participate in cohort groups for professional development support, utilize Critical Friends Facilitation Training, and work closely with a mentor to develop one National Board Portfolio entry. In the 2007-2008 school year, successful applicants may choose to continue with the complete National Board certification process by completing the portfolio and assessment center exercises. Continuing candidates will be eligible to apply for the state subsidy program, which currently pays $2,000 of the $2,500 fee.
