We are proud that because of our reputation for running high quality, efficient programs, we are often asked to execute grants and special projects funded by organizations and individuals. This past year we assisted in implementing four special programs, a Study Skills program at Prescott Middle School underwritten by the Credit Bureau of Baton Rouge, a program dedicated to children with autism at Southdowns funded through private donations, and a summer camp for low income students, especially those displaced by Katrina. Major partners in the summer camp were Boys and Girls Club and Big Buddy.
During the days following Katrina and Rita, ADF launched a student supply campaign to help meet the needs of the displaced students. Over 100 businesses, families, and schools from across the country donated school supplies to help students and teachers in need.
ADF received $100,000 from the Baton Rouge Area Foundation and other private donors to provide displaced teachers a $500 grant to purchase supplies that replaced classroom materials many lost when they fled their homes. School Aids partnered with ADF to supply the needed materials offering teachers a discount so the grant monies were able to go even further.
"I will always be grateful for the generous gift of $500 that allowed me to purchase my teacher supplies. It was so unexpected and endearing to my heart." Millie Soroe, Katrina Teacher
